If you aren’t already familiar with business listings, they live inside of what are called online directories. Think of directories as a phone book, and the business listings are the phone numbers and addresses located inside. So, an example of a directory is Yelp, Bing, or Merchant Circle. They are just one part of building a successful online marketing system.
Business listings are a great way to help drive traffic to your website, which, in turn, can help your business generate more customers. Providing customers with many opportunities to find your business online increases the chance of them finding and contacting your business.
Business listings allow your business to enter information such as name, address, phone number, website, social media links, videos, images, products, services, and more depending on the directory. This means that if a customer comes across your listing, they are able to get all the information they need, find your contact information, website, and social media links.
If you do some research, you may find that your business has listings that are either totally correct, or have missing information. There are a few options to update or add listings. The first is to sign up with an online company that will farm out your information to directories. We’ve found that this option isn’t always successful and may result in multiple listings or incomplete information. The second option is to manually update each listing yourself through the directory it lives in. This option is much more time consuming, but ensures that your listings are correct because you have full control. The final option is to hire someone to manually change the listings for you, so you can save time for your business.
Including up to date business listings in your online marketing system will help drive more traffic to your website. It’s important to create an online marketing system that includes and connects as many resources as possible whether it’s through local business listings, social media marketing, blogs, video marketing, email marketing, and more.
